Then I looked closer and was disappointed. 59K on the clock with a hard top, too bad. Dealer wants $9K for it

this brings up a topic I've been curious about...how do opponauts feel about the rolling oxymoron that is an automatic Miata?

Take a manual NA, swap gauges, transmission, and pedals, boom. Such a shame too, yellow is a one-year-only color option and the hardtop is hen's teeth. Also the dealer is asking about 3-4K$ too much, yikes. That's nice-NB/decent-NC territory.

I love automatic transmission models. That auto trans is like a protective covering for the entire car. It keeps it from being beaten and hooned, and keeps it clean until you can swap a manual in.

Currently, I don't know all the ins and outs of driving stick, but I've kind of told myself that if I am going to commit to living with a Miata, I'm going to commit to living the the manual. If I'm going to commit to having a fun 2 seat sportscar/roadster, I'm going to having fun in said car.

My girl can't drive a stick, so I've been intrigued by getting her to sell her RX-8 and buy a cheap beater automatic Miata as her secondary car. I haven't driven one personally, but I imagine it would be better than most automatic cars in that price range.
And no - I don't want to teach her to drive a stick. That's how I keep her from driving my 911! :D
So... hairdressers and wives of Jalopniks car...?
